{"id":89751,"date":"2026-02-05T07:35:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T07:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=89751"},"modified":"2026-02-05T07:35:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T07:35:17","slug":"what-have-reform-to-do-with-epstein","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2026\/02\/05\/what-have-reform-to-do-with-epstein\/","title":{"rendered":"What have Reform to do with Epstein?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National newspaper, for which I am a columnist,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/25822949.reform-uk-treasurer-nick-candy-named-dozens-epstein-files\/?ref=eb&amp;nid=1948&amp;block=article_block_a&amp;u=209f984e64a4678025b914d40a952dd2&amp;date=040226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> reported this last night<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"article-first-paragraph\">REFORM UK are under pressure to explain why their treasurer appears numerous times in the Epstein files over more than a decade.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"po-inline-articlegate-partialarticle\">\n<div id=\"subscription-content\">\n<blockquote><p>Nick Candy, a self-described billionaire who made his money in luxury properties, crops up on numerous occasions apparently linked to deals with Jeffrey Epstein, including what appears to be the prospective sale of the paedophile billionaire\u2019s New York mansion.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2024, Candy announced that he had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/national\/24784625.billionaire-tycoon-pledges-give-reform-seven-figure-sum-tory-defection\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quit the Conservatives and would \u201cbecome the treasurer for Reform UK\u201d<\/a>. He then joined\u00a0Nigel Farage\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/topics\/elon-musk\/?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elon Musk<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/24801599.nigel-farage-meets-elon-musk-donald-trumps-florida-mansion\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at a strategy meeting at Donald Trump\u2019s Florida mansion<\/a>, the latter two of whom also appear in the Epstein files.<\/p>\n<p>The trio\u2019s names all appear in a tranche of three million documents released by the US Department of Justice last Friday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They, rightly, added this:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Appearing in the Epstein files is not an indication of wrongdoing.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>That is true, but questions still need to be asked about this and about why, apparently, no Reform MP thought it appropriate to be in the Commons yesterday.
