In it I argued that:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Private enterprise has no clue how to generate wealth right now. I <a style=\"color: #2970a6; text-decoration: none; padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2010\/07\/15\/the-elephant-in-the-macroeconomy\/\" target=\"_blank\">mentioned the consequence<\/a> a while ago. Private business has no idea what to invest in now, no new product to make, no big idea to offer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;\">So this government is offering it the NHS, education and more so that public benefit can be enclosed for private gain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;\">This is what happened two hundred years ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;\">And it&rsquo;s happening again.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Today <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/comment\/8337239\/How-we-will-release-the-grip-of-state-control.html\">Cameron announced<\/a> that this is what he's now going to do: all public service is in effect open to private sector bidding.<\/p>\n<p>So we have a situation where, very deliberately a prime minister elected without a majority will try to ensure the end of public service in the UK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.touchstoneblog.org.uk\/2011\/02\/camerons-great-public-services-sell-off\/\">Alice Hood explains many of the consequences on the TUC blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I offer this thought: I have no doubt the contracts offered will be for more than ten years. Centrica, Serco, and others will be laughing all the way to the bank. But this is a fundamental threat to democracy: if these contracts are written so they cannot be cancelled by an incoming government they will undermine real democratic choice.<\/p>\n<p>And that's the real agenda here, I have no doubt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote a blog on the above theme last July.
