{"id":8768,"date":"2011-02-09T09:41:48","date_gmt":"2011-02-09T07:41:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=8768"},"modified":"2011-02-09T09:41:49","modified_gmt":"2011-02-09T07:41:49","slug":"the-city-funds-the-tories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2011\/02\/09\/the-city-funds-the-tories\/","title":{"rendered":"The City funds the Tories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Somehow <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/politics\/2011\/feb\/08\/tory-funds-half-city-banks-financial-sector\">there's little surprise in the news that the Guardian reports<\/a> that:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Financiers in the City of London provided more than 50% of the funding for the Tories last year, new research revealed last night, prompting claims that the party is in thrall to the banks.<\/p>\n<p>A study by the Bureau for Investigative Journalism has found that the City accounted for \u00a311.4m of Tory funding \u2014 50.79% of its total haul \u2014 in 2010, a general election year.
