{"id":87482,"date":"2025-11-12T08:40:27","date_gmt":"2025-11-12T08:40:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=87482"},"modified":"2025-11-12T08:40:27","modified_gmt":"2025-11-12T08:40:27","slug":"its-the-way-you-tell-them-that-counts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2025\/11\/12\/its-the-way-you-tell-them-that-counts\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s the way you tell them that counts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/8696254d-1873-434a-96be-88aa690f9b75\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FT reports<\/a> this morning that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Global oil and gas demand will rise for the next 25 years if the world does not change course, the International Energy Agency has said, in a new scenario that reflects governments\u2019 fading commitment to climate change.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2025\/nov\/12\/supply-boom-in-cheaper-renewables-will-seal-end-of-fossil-fuel-era-says-iea?utm_term=6914457889b6a6351d7a2d8fd05a50cf&amp;utm_campaign=BusinessToday&amp;utm_source=esp&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;CMP=bustoday_email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guardian tackles<\/a> the same material, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Renewables will grow faster than any major energy source in the next decade, according to the world\u2019s energy watchdog, making the transition away from fossil fuels \u201cinevitable\u201d, despite a green backlash in the US and parts of\u00a0Europe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The world is expected to build more renewable energy projects in the next five years than has been rolled out over the last 40, according to the flagship annual report from the International\u00a0Energy\u00a0Agency (IEA).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Which is true? I suspect both are. But as a comedian once said, it's the way you tell them that counts.<\/p>\n<p>I prefer the Guardian's spin.<\/p>\n<p>I heed the FT's warning.<\/p>\n<p>My point is, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2025\/11\/12\/does-the-coup-at-the-bbc-matter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">we need a media we can interrogate<\/a>.
