{"id":86907,"date":"2025-10-22T07:29:52","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T06:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=86907"},"modified":"2025-10-22T07:29:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T06:29:52","slug":"inflation-theres-nothing-to-say-except-the-big-question-no-one-wants-to-ask","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2025\/10\/22\/inflation-theres-nothing-to-say-except-the-big-question-no-one-wants-to-ask\/","title":{"rendered":"Inflation: there&#8217;s nothing to say except the big question no one wants to ask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There's nothing to say about the inflation data out this morning from the ONS, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/economy\/inflationandpriceindices\/bulletins\/consumerpriceinflation\/latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">about which they said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 3.8% in the 12 months to September 2025, unchanged from August.<\/li>\n<li>On a monthly basis, CPI was unchanged in September 2025, as in September 2024.<\/li>\n<li>Transport made the largest upward contribution to the monthly change in CPI annual rates; recreation and culture, and food and non-alcoholic beverages made the largest offsetting downward contributions.<\/li>\n<li>Core CPI (CPI excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) rose by 3.5% in the 12 months to September 2025, down from 3.6% in the 12 months to August; the CPI goods annual rate rose slightly from 2.8% to 2.9%, while the CPI services annual rate was unchanged in September, at 4.7%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Inflation has plateaued.
