{"id":8643,"date":"2011-02-01T10:45:20","date_gmt":"2011-02-01T08:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=8643"},"modified":"2011-02-01T10:45:22","modified_gmt":"2011-02-01T08:45:22","slug":"gps-are-saying-no","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2011\/02\/01\/gps-are-saying-no\/","title":{"rendered":"GPs are saying no"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I watched some of the debate on the  The Health and Social Care Bill  in parliament last evebing.<\/p>\n<p>I was shocked (yes, honestly  - I mean shocked) by the Conservative's lies.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Minister for example claimed quality was the basis for competition on the basis of the NHS price tariff - he did so twice - and ignored the fact that he's abolishing the tariff that ensures this is the case.<\/p>\n<p>But more interesting is news I heard yesterday that quite a number of GP practices are simply refusing to engage with the issue of setting up GP consortia for commissioning.<\/p>\n<p>They say there is no law yet.<\/p>\n<p>They say they have not been consulted.<\/p>\n<p>They say they do not have the skills.<\/p>\n<p>They say this will prejudice patient care.<\/p>\n<p>They say they cannot fulfil the obligation to provide GP services and do this.<\/p>\n<p>They say they will be in breach of contract if they don't supply those services.<\/p>\n<p>And as a result  they're just saying no.<\/p>\n<p>It will only take GPs to do this for the whole system to fall over.<\/p>\n<p>I hope enough have the courage to do so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I watched some of the debate on the The Health and Social Care Bill in parliament last evebing.
