{"id":85811,"date":"2025-09-11T08:03:37","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T07:03:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=85811"},"modified":"2025-09-11T08:03:37","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T07:03:37","slug":"killing-people-is-not-a-part-of-politics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2025\/09\/11\/killing-people-is-not-a-part-of-politics\/","title":{"rendered":"Killing people is not a part of politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/sep\/11\/charlie-kirk-shooting-police-search-for-suspect-amid-condemnation-of-targeted-killing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has been assassinated<\/a> in Utah, ISA.<\/p>\n<p>I don't like what Turning Point has to say.<\/p>\n<p>I don't like how it says it.<\/p>\n<p>But nothing justifies the assassination of political opponents.<\/p>\n<p>And nothing justifies the portrayal of a lone assassin, as would appear to inevitably be the case here, as a representative of a cause.<\/p>\n<p>Violence of any sort has no place in politics or policy.<\/p>\n<p>Nor does hate, even when fear is unavoidable (and in the modern political environment, that is the case).<\/p>\n<p>I would hope for considerable political responsibility at this time, even as I fear it is not being delivered.<\/p>\n<p>We all have a right to live.
