{"id":8580,"date":"2011-01-26T18:31:34","date_gmt":"2011-01-26T16:31:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=8580"},"modified":"2011-01-26T18:31:35","modified_gmt":"2011-01-26T16:31:35","slug":"please-support-the-campaign-to-put-an-end-to-legal-loan-sharking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2011\/01\/26\/please-support-the-campaign-to-put-an-end-to-legal-loan-sharking\/","title":{"rendered":"Please support the campaign to put an end to legal loan-sharking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I've <a href=\"http:\/\/www.endlegalloansharks.org.uk\/\">supported the campaign t<\/a>o put an end to legal loan sharking - where door step lenders give small cash loans at rates of interest in the hundreds and sometimes thousands of percent calculated in apr terms - for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>It's good to note in that case that on 3 February, the House of Commons will vote on whether to support the introduction of a series of caps on the amount that payday and home credit lenders can charge for credit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;\">The motion has gained widespread cross-party support from MPs who recognise that the Government has a duty to intervene in the high-cost credit market, which is uncompetitive and often exploitative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 20px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 0px;\">If enough MPs turn up on 3 February and vote for the motion, it will send a clear message to the Government that they need to act.
