{"id":84434,"date":"2025-07-28T08:10:35","date_gmt":"2025-07-28T07:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=84434"},"modified":"2025-07-28T08:10:35","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T07:10:35","slug":"starmer-cant-save-himself-but-he-might-just-help-save-some-palestinians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2025\/07\/28\/starmer-cant-save-himself-but-he-might-just-help-save-some-palestinians\/","title":{"rendered":"Starmer can&#8217;t save himself, but he might just help save some Palestinians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2025\/jul\/27\/keir-starmer-to-recall-cabinet-for-emergency-meeting-on-gaza-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guardian reports<\/a>:<\/p>\n<aside class=\"dcr-1fnjjtg\" data-gu-name=\"meta\">\n<div class=\"dcr-14emo0l\">\n<div class=\"dcr-1v9sla6\">\n<div class=\"dcr-5oiine\">\n<div class=\"dcr-9dgpdq\" data-print-layout=\"hide\">\n<div class=\"dcr-1csot3r\">\n<div class=\"dcr-14baf59\">\n<blockquote>\n<div>Keir Starmer will recall his cabinet from their summer break for an emergency meeting on the Gaza crisis this week as cross-party MPs warned his talks with Donald Trump\u00a0provided a critical juncture in helping to resolve the conflict.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<div class=\"dcr-st9szl\" data-gu-name=\"body\">\n<div class=\"dcr-1a4fred\">\n<div id=\"maincontent\" class=\"dcr-1uvtuj9\">\n<div class=\"article-body-commercial-selector article-body-viewer-selector dcr-11jq3zt\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Amid growing international horror over the situation on the ground in Gaza, he will urge the US president to take a tougher stance towards\u00a0Israel\u00a0and will push for ceasefire talks to resume, when they meet in Scotland on Monday.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So, Starmer, playing his usual role as Trump's poodle, is going to ask Trump to resume peace talks, which Trump, no doubt, will say he will do, with Starmer then claiming he has made a difference, all of which we will know to be nonsense.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, and entirely performatively, he will call Cabinet members back from holiday so that they can hear Starmer say he still thinks it is not the time to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recognise Palestine<\/li>\n<li>End Israeli-supporting RAF reconnaissance flights<\/li>\n<li>End weapon sales<\/li>\n<li>Impose total economic sanctions on Israel<\/li>\n<li>Call for war crime trials for all in the Israeli leadership and military who appear to have committed such offences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other words, he will stand by and let genocide happen, yet again.<\/p>\n<p>The time for prevarication on Israeli action ended a long time ago. Nothing should prevent Starmer from being charged with aiding and abetting war crimes now for what he has already done to assist their illegal campaign of terror.<\/p>\n<p>But that said, action now might help some Palestinians in Gaza. Has he the capacity to think that worthwhile within his Zionist soul?
