It\u2019s not disillusionment. It\u2019s revulsion: visceral fury, anger on a level I\u2019ve seldom seen before, even towards Tory cruelties. Why? Because\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/feb\/05\/labour-cuts-benefits-tories-vulnerable\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">these\u00a0<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/feb\/05\/labour-cuts-benefits-tories-vulnerable\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">are<\/a><\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/feb\/05\/labour-cuts-benefits-tories-vulnerable\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">\u00a0Tory cruelties<\/a>, delivered by a party that claimed to be the only alternative, in our first-past-the-post electoral system.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-16w5gq9\">Everyone can name at least some of the betrayals:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/mar\/19\/benefit-cuts-labour-reforms-george-osborne-politicians\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">cutting disability benefits<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2025\/may\/12\/uks-f-35-exports-more-important-than-stopping-genocide-lawyers-to-argue\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">supplying weapons<\/a>\u00a0and, allegedly,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.declassifieduk.org\/britain-sent-over-500-spy-flights-to-gaza\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">intelligence to the Israeli government<\/a>\u00a0as it pursues genocide in Gaza;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2025\/may\/12\/keir-starmer-defends-plans-to-curb-net-migration\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">channelling Reform UK and Enoch Powell<\/a>\u00a0in maligning immigrants; slashing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2025\/may\/13\/labour-defend-aid-cuts-claiming-uk-days-global-charity-over\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">international aid<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/apr\/24\/labour-nature-england-ecosystems-planning-bill-keir-starmer\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">trashing wildlife<\/a>\u00a0and habitats while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/debate\/article-14314783\/KEIR-STARMER-Labour-Government-stop-time-wasting-Nimbys-zealots-holding-country-ransom.html\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">insulting and abusing<\/a>\u00a0people who want to protect them; announcing yet another\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/apr\/03\/protest-britain-activists-quaker-meeting-house\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">draconian anti-protest law<\/a>; leaving\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/anticapitalistmusings.com\/2025\/04\/starmers-betrayal-of-trans-people-was-always-coming\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">trans people in legal limbo<\/a>; rigidly adhering to outdated and socially destructive fiscal rules; imposing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2025\/mar\/27\/rachel-reeves-swears-not-return-austerity\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">further austerity<\/a>\u00a0on government departments and public services. Once the great hope of the oppressed, Labour has become the oppressor.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>George suggests action to take to win PR as a result, because we must try to minimise the risk of this happening again:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Here\u2019s the strategy. Join the Lib Dems, Greens, SNP or Plaid Cymru. As their numbers rise, other voters will see the tide turning. Encourage troubled Labour MPs to defect.
