{"id":82330,"date":"2025-05-14T12:55:52","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T11:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=82330"},"modified":"2025-05-14T12:55:52","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T11:55:52","slug":"starmer-is-destroying-the-nhs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2025\/05\/14\/starmer-is-destroying-the-nhs\/","title":{"rendered":"Starmer is destroying the NHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/2025\/05\/14\/nearly-half-of-foreign-nhs-nurses-plan-quit-starmer-britain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Telegraph<\/a> this morning:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Almost half of foreign nurses plan to quit Sir Keir Starmer\u2019s Britain because of its \u201chostile\u201d immigration policy, a report has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>More than 55,000\u00a0international NHS nurses\u00a0want to move away, a survey revealed, raising the prospect of a staffing crisis across the health service and social care.<\/p>\n<p>Some 42 per cent blamed racism and Britain\u2019s unwelcoming attitude towards foreigners for wanting to leave the country amid the Prime Minister\u2019s planned\u00a0crackdown on immigration.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Who can blame them? Starmer is creating a hostile environment for migrants. They will notice, as he clearly wants them to. His dog-whistling vilification is done for a reason.<\/p>\n<p>There is just one problem. As The Telegraph also notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Nearly a quarter of all nurses working in the NHS are\u00a0<a class=\"ck-custom-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/global-health\/climate-and-people\/uk-watered-requirements-overseas-nurses-supercharged-recruitment\/\">trained overseas<\/a>\u00a0and half of all nurses newly joining the UK nursing register in recent years have come from abroad.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So, without them, we have no NHS.<\/p>\n<p>Is Starmer capable of joined-up thinking? His migration policy is about to destroy the NHS, and he appears unaware of that.
