{"id":78539,"date":"2024-11-05T16:02:16","date_gmt":"2024-11-05T16:02:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=78539"},"modified":"2024-11-05T16:02:16","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T16:02:16","slug":"150-families-v-democracy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2024\/11\/05\/150-families-v-democracy\/","title":{"rendered":"150 families v democracy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This was in the US Patriotic Millionaires email sent to me this morning:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A new report from our allies at Americans for Tax Fairness (ATF) reveals that\u00a0<strong>150 billionaire families have already donated a combined $1.9 billion<\/strong>\u00a0to presidential and congressional campaigns and PACs in this election.<sup>1<\/sup>\u00a0That is\u00a0<strong>$700 million<\/strong>, or 60%, more than what 600 individual billionaires spent at this same time during the 2020 election.<sup>2<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>The majority of that money -- $600 million -- went to electing Donald Trump, a direct threat to democracy.<\/strong>\u00a0Trump received more than 3 times the amount of billionaire donations than Vice President Kamala Harris, a 75%-25% split.<sup>3<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The future of our country cannot be decided by 150 billionaire families.
