{"id":76209,"date":"2024-06-20T08:20:21","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T07:20:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=76209"},"modified":"2024-06-20T11:32:14","modified_gmt":"2024-06-20T10:32:14","slug":"i-beg-to-differ-labour-is-offering-a-disaster-to-this-country","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2024\/06\/20\/i-beg-to-differ-labour-is-offering-a-disaster-to-this-country\/","title":{"rendered":"I beg to differ: Labour is offering a disaster to this country\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/article\/2024\/jun\/19\/labour-is-offering-a-credible-plan-to-address-britains-economic-problems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Guardian carries a letter<\/a> this morning from a range of economists, many of whom I have crossed swords with, supporting Labour's economic policy.<\/p>\n<p>That Simon Wren-Lewis, Joe Stiglitz \u00a0and Tony Yates, plus former deputy governor of the Bank of England Charlie Bean, might do so is no surprise. They are establishment economists supporting a party offering decidedly establishment policy, with which I am in significant disagreement. They might wish to cooperate with a potential government with a significant majority simply because it will have power. I am not.<\/p>\n<p>I was much more surprised to find Marianna Mazzucato on the list. Labour's policies appear far from those that she has proposed.<\/p>\n<p>And why Danny Blanchflower is there, I do not know.
