{"id":75856,"date":"2024-06-04T10:13:04","date_gmt":"2024-06-04T09:13:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=75856"},"modified":"2024-06-04T10:13:04","modified_gmt":"2024-06-04T09:13:04","slug":"labour-selling-out-to-the-highest-bidder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2024\/06\/04\/labour-selling-out-to-the-highest-bidder\/","title":{"rendered":"Labour: selling out to the highest bidder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I discussed the potential sale of the Royal Mail to a Czech billionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2024\/05\/29\/there-is-only-one-acceptable-owner-of-the-royal-mail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here, recently.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/article\/2024\/may\/29\/royal-mails-foreign-sale-would-put-a-500-year-old-national-service-in-jeopardy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Guardian has reported<\/a> that Labour's Jonathan Reynolds - who might be business secretary in a Starmer government - has opined, reporting that:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"dcr-1bgz3hb\">Jonathan Reynolds, the shadow business secretary, who met K\u0159et\u00ednsk\u00fd at the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, has turned his back on union calls for renationalisation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-1bgz3hb\">Reynolds said the Czech\u2019s assurances that Royal Mail would \u201cretain its British identity and safeguard its workforce\u201d were welcome, indicating he is minded to wave through the takeover should Labour win the election.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What more should we expect from Labour? That they were always going to be willing to sell out to the highest bidder, whatever the issue, has been clear from the way they have managed themselves in Opposition.
