{"id":75838,"date":"2024-06-03T08:08:06","date_gmt":"2024-06-03T07:08:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=75838"},"modified":"2024-06-03T08:08:06","modified_gmt":"2024-06-03T07:08:06","slug":"has-the-london-stock-exchange-heard-of-business-ethics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2024\/06\/03\/has-the-london-stock-exchange-heard-of-business-ethics\/","title":{"rendered":"Has the London Stock Exchange heard of business ethics?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Newspapers are excitedly noting this morning that the Chinese managed online fashion group Shein is expected to file a prospectus for a London Stock Exchange listing very soon.<\/p>\n<p>I am not excited.<\/p>\n<p>Shein sells very large quantities of clothing that it knows are unlikely to be worn more than a few times, at most. They are intended to arrive in a waste tip sometime very soon after their original purchase.<\/p>\n<p>Garments that are returned to them are apparently routinely binned and not recycled.<\/p>\n<p>This is a company that has set out to abuse the planet.<\/p>\n<p>There are also questions about its tax affairs.
