Instead, Dr Munther Isaac, a Palestinian pastor at Bethlehem\u2019s Evangelical Lutheran Church, created a manger scene depicting baby Jesus surrounded by rubble and concrete.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>He is not alone. The Christmas celebrations in Bethlehem have been cancelled this year.<\/p>\n<p>And, as the article concludes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The UK government currently has no programme for accepting refugees from the conflict in Gaza.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There is, apparently, no room in our inn.<\/p>\n<p>That is not true, of course. But Rishi Sunak was out with the Italian far-right yesterday warning, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2023\/dec\/16\/sunak-accused-toxic-rhetoric-after-warning-overwhelming-migration-europe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to the Guardian<\/a> that \"migration would \u201coverwhelm\u201d European countries without firm action\".<\/p>\n<p>I am, to be honest, not convinced by much of the Christmas narrative in the Gospels. Mark, after all, skipped it entirely.
