{"id":73381,"date":"2023-12-10T08:50:19","date_gmt":"2023-12-10T08:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=73381"},"modified":"2023-12-10T08:50:19","modified_gmt":"2023-12-10T08:50:19","slug":"how-long-has-sunak-got","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2023\/12\/10\/how-long-has-sunak-got\/","title":{"rendered":"How long has Sunak got?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There is a headline<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2023\/dec\/10\/tories-warn-rishi-sunak-that-his-rwanda-plan-will-never-be-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0in the Observer today<\/a> that says:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-73382\" src=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_1269-550x156.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_1269-550x156.jpeg 550w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_1269-768x218.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_1269-600x170.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_1269.jpeg 1087w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It seems clear that large numbers of Tories have decided that Sunak\u2019s Rwanda plan is either too extreme to be credible or not nearly extreme enough to pander to their prejudices, and either way it is lacking in support.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder Sunak\u2019s main line of argument for this plan is to say that Labour have no alternative and so they must support it. For reasons that stress hard to explain, he has pinned his hopes for his future in winning the support of the Opposition for a Bill that makes no sense to any right thinking person.<\/p>\n<p>So, is Rishi doomed as soon as Tuesday?<\/p>\n<p>I think what happens on Monday at the Covid inquiry might have a big impact on that. If he is eviscerated for \u2018Eat out to help out\u2019 - as he should be - and 20,000 deaths are laid at his door - as they should be - his chance\u2019s of winning on Tuesday diminish considerably.<\/p>\n<p>But I should add that according to the Mail this morning, the plan is to then bring back Boris Johns9on, aided and abetted by Farage.
