{"id":58962,"date":"2021-09-03T07:16:56","date_gmt":"2021-09-03T06:16:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=58962"},"modified":"2021-09-03T07:16:56","modified_gmt":"2021-09-03T06:16:56","slug":"why-are-tax-havens-harmful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2021\/09\/03\/why-are-tax-havens-harmful\/","title":{"rendered":"Why are tax havens harmful?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"s3\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s2\">In the first three videos in this series on tax havens I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2021\/08\/31\/what-is-a-tax-haven-3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">explored why tax havens should really be called secrecy jurisdictions<\/a>, what tax havens are used<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2021\/09\/01\/what-are-tax-havens-used-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\"> for now<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\"> and how they try <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2021\/09\/02\/how-do-tax-havens-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">to undermine the regulation of other states<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">In this video I move on to ask why tax havens are so harmful<\/span><span class=\"s2\">?<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> Drawing on economic theory and the simple ethics of fairness that every child understands I argue that tax havens are intended to undermine fair <\/span><span class=\"s2\">markets, and<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> do. As a result, for from being the bastions of free enterprise that they claim to be tax havens are <\/span><span class=\"s2\">actually places<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> that seek to undermine the <\/span><span class=\"s2\">entire <\/span><span class=\"s2\">market system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s3\"><span class=\"s2\">On the way to achieving that goal I argue that they <\/span><span class=\"s2\">also <\/span><span class=\"s2\">undermine two other <\/span><span class=\"s2\">thing<\/span><span class=\"s2\"> as well.
