{"id":56266,"date":"2021-03-31T10:25:36","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T09:25:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=56266"},"modified":"2021-03-31T10:25:55","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T09:25:55","slug":"deliveroo-does-not-deliver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2021\/03\/31\/deliveroo-does-not-deliver\/","title":{"rendered":"Deliveroo does not deliver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/5028437e-accf-4624-8ecd-2b502d04743d?segmentId=dddf6252-6e37-bb4b-bda7-2193a3453893\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">amused to read this in the FT<\/a> this morning:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Deliveroo\u2019s shares tumbled 30 per cent in the company\u2019s London debut on Wednesday, in a blow to ambitions to lure more British tech companies to list in the UK.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why the amusement?<\/p>\n<p>First, that so many in the City will have been caught out by the hype about Deliveroo. Their own belief that they can value companies will be badly dented.<\/p>\n<p>Second, that people have rumbled that loss-making companies are really not a good deal.<\/p>\n<p>Third, most especially that people have steered clear of this company because of its unethical employment policies, on which its whole loss-making business model is based.<\/p>\n<p>Ethics might count for something after all.<\/p>\n<p>Ethical abuse that can't even deliver a profit might be the better explanation though.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, let others take note.
