{"id":55908,"date":"2021-03-08T08:35:06","date_gmt":"2021-03-08T08:35:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=55908"},"modified":"2021-03-08T08:35:35","modified_gmt":"2021-03-08T08:35:35","slug":"55908","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2021\/03\/08\/55908\/","title":{"rendered":"Currency is the collective power of the people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Jim Osborne, who comments regularly here, on what I think is his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/19142816.need-scottish-currency-without-delay-truly-gain-independence\/?ref=eb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first article in The National<\/a> newspaper in Scotland this morning.<\/p>\n<p>As he notes in an article on the work of the Scottish Currency Group (of which I am a member):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Currency is the collective power of the people, which is why state funds (before Thatcher) were always referred to as the \u201cpublic purse\u201d. It is our money because it is our government that creates it. There is no such thing as \u201ctaxpayers\u2019 money\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>What we need is a vision of the collective investment necessary to establish the full Scottish Government.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I agree.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Jim Osborne, who comments regularly here, on what I think is his first article in The National newspaper in Scotland this morning.
