Not so fast!<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis Howlett on PWC's legal manoeuvrings to get out of liability for the Satyam audit.<\/p>\n<p>As he notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>So let me get this straight. PwC successfully argued that it was a franchise and not directly connected to other firms in the PwC orbit. If that&rsquo;s the case then there&rsquo;s a whole bunch of questions to be asked such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What the heck was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accmanpro.com\/2009\/11\/05\/pwc-off-the-hook-over-satyam-not-so-fast\/PricewaterhouseCoopers%E2%80%99%20global%20chief%20executive%20officer%20Samuel%20DiPiazza%20has%20met%20India's%20Union%20Minister%20for%20Corporate%20Affairs%20in%20relation%20to%20the%20Satyam%20accounting%20fraud,%20the%20Business%20Standard%20reported.\">CEO of PWC doing in India<\/a> in the aftermath of the Satyam scandal?<\/li>\n<li>If there is no connection then <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accmanpro.com\/2009\/11\/05\/pwc-off-the-hook-over-satyam-not-so-fast\/PricewaterhouseCoopers%E2%80%99%20global%20chief%20executive%20officer%20Samuel%20DiPiazza%20has%20met%20India's%20Union%20Minister%20for%20Corporate%20Affairs%20in%20relation%20to%20the%20Satyam%20accounting%20fraud,%20the%20Business%20Standard%20reported.\">why did Thomas Mathew step down<\/a>?<\/li>\n<li>Do we now have confirmation that PwC is only a brand and not a global firm?<\/li>\n<li>Does this mean that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cainindia.org\/news\/7_2009\/satyam_pwc_ceo_raises_more_questions.html\">if I subcontract and my subcontractor messes up<\/a> then I can still avoid liability?<\/li>\n<li>How does PwC get a pass when it signed off the accounts and not the subcontractor?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This one has a long way to run as yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PwC off the hook over Satyam?
