{"id":52923,"date":"2020-09-18T13:46:51","date_gmt":"2020-09-18T12:46:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=52923"},"modified":"2020-09-18T13:46:51","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T12:46:51","slug":"almost-irrelevant-of-age-sex-class-or-ethnicity-people-want-a-fairer-greener-more-community-oriented-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2020\/09\/18\/almost-irrelevant-of-age-sex-class-or-ethnicity-people-want-a-fairer-greener-more-community-oriented-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Almost irrelevant of age, sex, class or ethnicity \u00e2\u20ac\u201c people want a fairer, greener, more community-oriented future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/2020\/sep\/16\/people-want-a-fairer-greener-britain-after-covid-inquiry-reveals#img-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Matthew Taylor has noted in the Guardian<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The British public backs an ambitious transformation of the UK into a greener, fairer more equal society as it emerges from the Covid-19 crisis, according to an inquiry by a cross-party group of MPs.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"http:\/\/www.reset-uk.org\/\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">The consultation exercise<\/a>, which involved polling, in-depth workshops and telephone conversations with a representative sample of the public, found support for ambitious plans on equality, the future of work and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>The findings come amid growing concern that the government is attempting to rush the country back to a pre-Covid \u201cbusiness as usual\u201d model, rather than learn the lessons from the pandemic and build a more resilient \u201cfairer, greener Britain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The inquiry was conducted by the all-party parliamentary group on a green new deal. One of its co-chairs, the Labour MP Clive Lewis, said the coronavirus crisis appeared to be driving a widespread desire for change.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe findings of our research show that \u2014 almost irrelevant of age, sex, class or ethnicity \u2014 people want a fairer, greener, more community-oriented future. They do not want to see society go back to how it was.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>These findings were based on a survey called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reset-uk.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reset<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As that, Green New Deal linked survey reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"TextGroup__Subtitle-sc-1y0fbhy-1 tnxPd\">What will life look like after Covid? We asked and over 55,000 people across the UK responded.They told us they wanted a\u00a0 fairer, kinder, greener, more connected Britain<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"TextGroup__Content-sc-1y0fbhy-2 ijgvBD\">\n<blockquote><p>Supported by a group of MPs and peers from across the political spectrum, Reset set out to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of us to listen, reflect, plan and act \u2014 together \u2014 to bring about real and lasting change. We asked the public what they wanted life after Covid to look like, and created space for them to reflect and imagine together.
