It's only appropriate then to note when it is moving in the right direction. This is good news, from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2020\/jul\/15\/uk-government-planning-new-green-investment-bank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> The Guardian<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The UK government is poised to reveal plans for a new state-backed green bank to help finance Britain\u2019s climate ambitions, three years after ministers agreed to sell the UK\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2017\/dec\/12\/green-investment-bank-sold-too-cheaply-watchdog-says\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Green Investment Bank<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They add:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Kwasi Kwarteng, the energy minister, said that he expects the government to set out how it plans to create a successor to the <a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/green-investment-bank\" data-link-name=\"auto-linked-tag\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Green Investment Bank<\/a>\u00a0\u201cin the not-too-distant future\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I am amongst many who have called for this, and it is a core Green New Deal demand as well as a necessary part of green quantitative easing:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The move to rebuild a new green lender comes amid growing calls from climate campaigners, economists and academics to\u00a0<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2020\/jul\/02\/invest-in-the-green-economy-and-well-recover-from-the-covid-19-crisis\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">invest in green infrastructure<\/a>\u00a0to help revive the UK\u2019s struggling economy and help meet its climate targets.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<aside class=\"element element-rich-link element--thumbnail element-rich-link--upgraded\" data-component=\"rich-link\" data-link-name=\"rich-link-1 | 1\">\n<div class=\"rich-link tone-news--item rich-link--pillar-news\">\n<div class=\"rich-link__container\">\n<div>Of course, it should be noted that:<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"rich-link__image-container u-responsive-ratio\">The government sold the UK\u2019s original Green Investment Bank to Australian bank Macquarie in 2017, only five years after it was formed, in a controversial deal dubbed \u201c<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2018\/mar\/14\/green-investment-bank-sell-off-mps-macquarie\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">deeply regrettable<\/a>\u201d and \u201c<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2017\/apr\/20\/green-investment-bank-sell-off-dubbed-a-disaster-by-critics\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">politically dubious<\/a>\u201d by critics of the sale.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>We could\u00a0 in that case be way further ahead than we are now, but I will avoid such criticism now: at least a move is being made in the right direction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I sometimes criticise our government.
