{"id":50625,"date":"2020-06-08T13:50:22","date_gmt":"2020-06-08T12:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=50625"},"modified":"2020-06-08T13:50:22","modified_gmt":"2020-06-08T12:50:22","slug":"scotland-is-not-amused","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2020\/06\/08\/scotland-is-not-amused\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland is not amused"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I can't help but share this from<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenational.scot\/news\/18502239.snp-set-huge-holyrood-election-win-mandate-indyref2\/?ref=eb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> The National<\/a> in Scotland today, for whom I wrote on occassion:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"article-first-paragraph\">THE\u00a0SNP\u00a0will win an overall majority and have an overwhelming mandate for indyref2 in 2021, according to an exclusive bombshell poll which puts the party on an incredible 53% of the constituency vote.<\/p>\n<p>The Panelbase poll, commissioned by ScotGoesPop, also indicates that\u00a0Nicola Sturgeon\u2019s party would gain 48% of the regional list ballot vote in next year\u2019s\u00a0Holyrood\u00a0elections.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"subscription-content\">\n<blockquote><p>Seat projections based on this would see the SNP gaining an additional nine seats, bringing the number of SNP MSPs to 72 \u2014 a thumping pro-independence\u00a0majority even before you add in the projected five seats for the Scottish\u00a0Greens.<\/p>\n<p>This would dramatically increase pressure on Boris Johnson to grant a Section 30 order to hold indyref2.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson Carlaw\u2019s Scottish\u00a0Tories\u00a0are projected to lose six seats, bringing their total down to 25, while\u00a0Richard Leonard\u2019s Scottish\u00a0Labour\u00a0party is set to lose five seats, leaving them with 19 Holyrood politicians.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s looking set to be an even more turbulent time for the Conservatives down in\u00a0Westminster, with the poll revealing that, as it stands,\u00a0the party would lose every one of its six Scottish constituencies to the SNP, who would gain 10 seats to bring them to 58 in total. That would leave them short just one seat of sweeping Scotland \u2014 Labour\u2019s Ian Murray in Edinburgh South.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Scotland is rightly not amused with England right now.<\/p>\n<p>Will there still be a Union in a few years time?
