It&#8217;s now clear that they are going to put wealth first."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A week or so ago I wrote a blog with this title:<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2020\/05\/05\/people-and-jobs-or-wealth-the-government-has-to-decide-which-to-prioritise-and-there-is-only-one-right-answer\/\">People and jobs? Or wealth? The government has to decide which to prioritise, and there is only one right answer<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I argued that the government had to make a choice about whether they were going to prioritise assets or the real economy and people during the course of this crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Now we know the answer. We have got it as a result of the reopening of the housing market. As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/newsletter\/london-playbook\/politico-london-playbook-first-day-of-freedom-cost-of-corona-lets-get-real-estate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Politico<\/a> notes this morning:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This latest change means people can now visit the homes of complete strangers to consider a house purchase, but not the homes of family members or close friends. \u201cSo if I put my house on the market, can my mum come round and see her grandson?\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/politico.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=e26c1a1c392386a968d02fdbc&amp;id=df8d017c2c&amp;e=3ca9bcaa81\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/politico.us8.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3De26c1a1c392386a968d02fdbc%26id%3Ddf8d017c2c%26e%3D3ca9bcaa81&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1589437124592000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGGBukLCyFLCXIZNozttOtVoLUt2A\">freelance journo James McEnaney asks<\/a>.
