{"id":43332,"date":"2018-10-15T08:35:25","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T07:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=43332"},"modified":"2018-10-15T08:35:25","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T07:35:25","slug":"the-disunited-kingdom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2018\/10\/15\/the-disunited-kingdom\/","title":{"rendered":"The DisUnited Kingdom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It's hard to be an optimist this morning.<\/p>\n<p>The EU says the Brexit\u00a0problem lies with the UK, as if that is news.<\/p>\n<p>We know there is no Irish solution around which the Cabinet will unite.<\/p>\n<p>We know May might lose ministers this week.<\/p>\n<p>We know that might trigger her downfall.<\/p>\n<p>And we know Cameron and Clegg ensured that does not mean we have an election\u00a0but might end up with someone like David Davis as PM.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, Northern Ireland has still got no government and yet the DUP holds the UK to ransom.<\/p>\n<p>And Scotland, rightly, frets.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst the people of the UK see their well-being at risk of collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Despite which the Tories apparently have a poll lead.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing makes sense.<\/p>\n<p>We are a DisUnited Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>The chance that this can be resolved without getting much worse look to be remote.<\/p>\n<p>I'd love to be an optimist.
