{"id":43037,"date":"2018-09-07T15:31:39","date_gmt":"2018-09-07T14:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=43037"},"modified":"2018-09-07T17:07:17","modified_gmt":"2018-09-07T16:07:17","slug":"a-campaign-win-the-bbc-admits-giving-a-platform-to-climate-change-deniers-is-not-a-part-of-balanced-reporting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2018\/09\/07\/a-campaign-win-the-bbc-admits-giving-a-platform-to-climate-change-deniers-is-not-a-part-of-balanced-reporting\/","title":{"rendered":"A campaign win: the BBC admits giving a platform to climate change deniers is not a part of balanced reporting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Less than a couple of weeks ago <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2018\/08\/27\/climate-change-is-real-we-must-not-offer-credibility-to-those-who-deny-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">some of us spoke about the BBC's attitude to climate change<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Today the Guardian reports:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The\u00a0<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/bbc\" data-link-name=\"auto-linked-tag\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">BBC<\/a>\u00a0has accepted it gets coverage of climate change \u201cwrong too often\u201d and told staff: \u201cYou do not need a \u2018denier\u2019 to balance the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a briefing note sent to all staff warning them to be aware of false balance, the corporation has offered a training course on how to report on global warming. The move follows a series of apologies and censures for failing to challenge climate sceptics during interviews, including Lord Lawson.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course I am pleased.<\/p>\n<p>And massive credit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2018\/aug\/02\/bbc-climate-change-deniers-balance\">Rupert Read for achieving this<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Next the BBC should stop platforming tax deniers.<\/p>\n<p>And those who will not disclose their funding.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Less than a couple of weeks ago some of us spoke about the BBC&#8217;s attitude to climate change.
