{"id":39623,"date":"2017-11-29T08:44:22","date_gmt":"2017-11-29T08:44:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=39623"},"modified":"2017-11-29T08:44:22","modified_gmt":"2017-11-29T08:44:22","slug":"one-word-path-et-ic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2017\/11\/29\/one-word-path-et-ic\/","title":{"rendered":"One word: path-et-ic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I'm coming over a bit all Craig Revel Horwood this morning as a result of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/business\/2017\/nov\/28\/theresa-may-urges-further-action-to-combat-tax-avoidance?utm_source=esp&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_campaign=Morning+briefing&amp;utm_term=254434&amp;subid=280978&amp;CMP=ema-2793\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report in the Guardian this morning<\/a> that says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Theresa May discussed the\u00a0<a class=\"u-underline\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/series\/paradise-papers\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Paradise Papers<\/a>\u00a0with the leaders of 10 British overseas territories at their annual gathering in Downing Street on Tuesday, with the prime minister urging further action to combat tax avoidance.<\/p>\n<p>A cross-party group of 12 MPs wrote to the prime minister last week requesting she set a deadline for tax haven jurisdictions under British control to publish registers of the real owners of shell companies.<\/p>\n<p>May raised the issue of public registers at the meeting, a government source confirmed, and said work on tax avoidance could help enhance reputations internationally. However, the prime minister has so far refused to endorse the measure, which was\u00a0<a class=\"u-underline\" draggable=\"true\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/politics\/2013\/jun\/14\/tax-secrecy-central-register-cameron\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">championed by her predecessor<\/a>, David Cameron.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There's just one word that can be said in response to that.
