Looking at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oxforddictionaries.com\/definition\/english\/austerity\" target=\"_blank\">dictionary\u00a0definitions definitions<\/a>\u00a0I think it fair to conclude that austerity means:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Sternness or severity of manner or attitude<\/li>\n<li>Plainness and simplicity in appearance<\/li>\n<li>A feature of an austere way of life<\/li>\n<li>Difficult economic conditions created by government measures to reduce public expenditure<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In practical terms I interpret that as meaning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A lack<\/li>\n<li>With severe consequences<\/li>\n<li>Adopted as a matter of choice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thoughts?<\/p>\n<p><em>NB: moderation may be very slow today for the reasons noted<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am spending much of the day in meetings and seminars, the first being on the subject of austerity.
