{"id":3095,"date":"2009-02-05T13:13:55","date_gmt":"2009-02-05T11:13:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2009\/02\/05\/the-tax-havens-on-our-doorstep\/"},"modified":"2009-02-05T13:13:55","modified_gmt":"2009-02-05T11:13:55","slug":"the-tax-havens-on-our-doorstep","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2009\/02\/05\/the-tax-havens-on-our-doorstep\/","title":{"rendered":"The tax havens on our doorstep"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Guardian has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/business\/tax-gap-blog\/2009\/feb\/04\/2\" target=\"_blank\">another blog<\/a> under the above title, addressing the issues of Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.<\/p>\n<p>I have commented as follows:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>It is worth noting that both Jersey and Guernsey face economic crisis at present.<\/p>\n<p>I have shown why Jersey is at risk of going bust <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2007\/11\/26\/jerseys-black-hole\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The situation has got worse since the credit crisis has emerged.<\/p>\n<p>Guernsey has to see massive economic growth to fill its budget gap as a result of introducing a 0% corporate tax rate. There is no chance at all it will happen.<\/p>\n<p>The Isle of Man is different. The UK gives it a tax subsidy of more than \u00a3200 million a year to be a tax haven.<\/p>\n<p>That is our money given to the Isle of Man to let them undermine our tax system.<\/p>\n<p>The details are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Documents\/TRIoM3-07.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We can stop the latter abuse. We'll pick up the tab when Jersey and Guernsey sink.
