{"id":26867,"date":"2014-12-01T07:43:31","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T07:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=26867"},"modified":"2014-12-01T07:43:31","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T07:43:31","slug":"the-futility-of-tax-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2014\/12\/01\/the-futility-of-tax-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"The futility of tax competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/443ea028-772a-11e4-8273-00144feabdc0.html#ixzz3Kd5wJ3D0\" target=\"_blank\">FT reports this morning that<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The UK has lost its top slot in a league table of multinational companies\u2019 favourite tax regimes, in spite of George Osborne\u2019s flagship policy of cutting taxes to attract business to Britain.<\/p>\n<p>The UK\u2019s popularity increased slightly but it was leapfrogged by Ireland, which is expected to be less affected than some rival countries by the international crackdown on tax avoidance, according to a survey by KPMG, professional services group.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>All of which only proves the sheer futility of engaging in tax competition. Any supposed 'victory' is short lived and the cost high. I have previously suggested that Osborne's policy on this issue may have cost the IK \u00a310 billion a year.<\/p>\n<p>And who fuels all this?
