We find it outrageous and immoral that this vitally important position goes to a person who is the antithesis of climate protection and renewable energy. \"<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"http:\/\/partidoequo.es\/para-equo-el-nombramiento-de-arias-canete-como-comisario-europeo-de-energia-y-accion-climatica-es-un\">a press release<\/a>\u00a0[in Spanish] the Greens have\u00a0pointed out that Ca\u00c3\u00b1ete:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>has owned shares in oil companies that operate in tax havens,<\/li>\n<li>is a shareholder in a company operating in the Canary Islands with a contract of Petrologis, subsidiary of the Ducar oil refinery,<\/li>\n<li>has never participated in any legislative initiatives on\u00a0Climate Change and Energy\u00a0while he was member of the Spanish Parliament.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Furthermore, the policies developed by Ca\u00c3\u00b1ete's ministry also deserve attention. ''In recent years we have witnessed the gradual dismantling of environmental policies in Spain. Under the guise of economic development some laws, such as the Coastal Act or the Environmental Assessment Act,\u00a0have been emptied of key content, while government has done as much as it can against\u00a0renewable energy.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is clear that Ca\u00c3\u00b1ete is not a candidate who would be in any way committed to the fight against climate change and for a new sustainable energy model. How will he fight\u00a0against climate change while holding his shares in oil companies? \u00a0It's ethically and politically unthinkable.\"<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Supposedly <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2014\/sep\/23\/un-climate-change-summit-partial-results-speeches-obama\" target=\"_blank\">the world took steps against climate change yesterday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There is no way this is a step in any such direction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes you think that a story you read is just so absurd it has to be made up.
