{"id":25902,"date":"2014-09-01T13:41:41","date_gmt":"2014-09-01T12:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=25902"},"modified":"2014-09-01T13:41:41","modified_gmt":"2014-09-01T12:41:41","slug":"hmrcs-new-directors-white-male-and-from-big-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2014\/09\/01\/hmrcs-new-directors-white-male-and-from-big-business\/","title":{"rendered":"HMRC&#8217;s new directors: white, male and from big business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HMRC has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/hmrc-appoints-two-new-non-executive-directors\" target=\"_blank\">announced the appointment of two new executive directors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pub\/simon-ricketts\/13\/752\/578\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Ricketts<\/a>, who I gather is from Rolls Royce, and Mervyn Walker who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.debeersgroup.com\/en\/About-Us\/Governance\/Board-Of-Directors\/Mervyn-Walker\/\" target=\"_blank\">I believe is from Anglo American<\/a>. Why the press release could not say so is not clear.<\/p>\n<p>So the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/organisations\/hm-revenue-customs\/groups\/hmrc-board\" target=\"_blank\"> HMRC Board <\/a>loses a woman as a member, is increasingly male, remains, I think, entirely ethnically white and, as the press release is proud to make clear, 'provide[s] a rich mix of Board-level experience in major corporations'.<\/p>\n<p>If you wanted a sorrier tale of a governance structure not reflecting the stakeholders an organisation is meant to serve it would be hard to find one.<\/p>\n<p>It remains the case the HMRC needs a significant reorganisation from the top down but it is certainly not happening yet.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HMRC has announced the appointment of two new executive directors.
