{"id":23625,"date":"2014-01-04T10:08:48","date_gmt":"2014-01-04T10:08:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=23625"},"modified":"2014-01-04T10:08:48","modified_gmt":"2014-01-04T10:08:48","slug":"for-heavens-sake-do-your-tax-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2014\/01\/04\/for-heavens-sake-do-your-tax-return\/","title":{"rendered":"For heaven&#8217;s sake &#8211; do your tax return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxassist.co.uk\/resources\/show-news\/title\/-middleclass-parents-facing-child-benefit-penalties\/id\/900000294\" target=\"_blank\">irm of accountants has noted this morning that<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>As many as 120,000 parents of middle-class families are set to be hit by fines of \u00a3100 from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for failing to repay their child benefit.<\/p>\n<p>Parents that fail to register for Self-Assessment and complete an online form to repay the child benefit received in the 2012\/13 tax year by 31st January 2014 will be hit with an automatic \u00a3100 penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Additional penalties could be applied to those who fail to act, reaching as much as \u00a31,600 for those who file more than 12 months late.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I fully support the imposition of penalties for tax returns submitted late.<\/p>\n<p>I also think anyone paying them is pretty stupid.<\/p>\n<p>Please get your tax return done on time.
