{"id":22446,"date":"2013-09-24T20:07:48","date_gmt":"2013-09-24T19:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=22446"},"modified":"2013-09-24T20:07:48","modified_gmt":"2013-09-24T19:07:48","slug":"the-government-reveals-its-true-tax-haven-spots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2013\/09\/24\/the-government-reveals-its-true-tax-haven-spots\/","title":{"rendered":"The government reveals its true tax haven spots"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thisisjersey.com\/news\/2013\/09\/24\/friends-in-high-places\/\" target=\"_blank\">to the Jersey Evening Post today<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>THE UK government is \u2018very clear\u2019 that it will not allow Jersey to be branded as a dodgy tax haven, a senior British politician has pledged.<\/p>\n<p>UK Secretary of State for Justice Chris Grayling, who was in the Island yesterday on what he called a \u2018fact finding visit\u2019 after being elevated to the post last year, echoed Prime Minister David Cameron\u2019s recent show of support for the Island.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As if to reveal the true neoliberal heart of the Coalition the report continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He said: \u2018We are very clear that we are not going to allow and we do not want to see Jersey branded as a dodgy tax haven, which is absolutely not what it is.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Jersey is a reputable financial centre which plays an important part in global and international politics and business, and it should be seen as such.\u2019<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I'd just remind the UK government t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2013\/08\/30\/france-says-jersey-is-a-tax-haven-deserving-to-be-penalised-for-its-failure-to-cooperate-in-the-war-on-tax-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\">hat France has just blacklisted Jersey as a non-cooperative tax haven.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Only one government can be right.
