{"id":20565,"date":"2013-05-07T20:10:48","date_gmt":"2013-05-07T19:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=20565"},"modified":"2013-05-07T20:10:48","modified_gmt":"2013-05-07T19:10:48","slug":"courtesy-of-jersey-finance-the-whole-le-parisien-article-which-has-jersey-in-a-state-of-furore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2013\/05\/07\/courtesy-of-jersey-finance-the-whole-le-parisien-article-which-has-jersey-in-a-state-of-furore\/","title":{"rendered":"Courtesy of Jersey Finance &#8211; the whole Le Parisien article which has Jersey in a state of furore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It's quite amusing that Jersey Finance - the real\u00a0government\u00a0of Jersey - is in such a furore that Deputy Montfort Tadier spoke to a French newspaper that they have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jerseyfinance.je\/media\/CEO%20Blog%20Files\/EnglishTranslation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">paid for the article to be\u00a0translated\u00a0and have now put it on their own web site<\/a> - so adding\u00a0considerably\u00a0to the publicity about it.<\/p>\n<p>What's really odd is that there is nothing new or of significance of it. In fact it's all rather tame.<\/p>\n<p>What the French paper is saying and what Deputy Montfort is saying is what the UK government is saying: Jersey is used for tax evasion. I published the evidence that the UK are officially saying this earlier today, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmrc.gov.uk\/budget2013\/offshore-strategy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">but here it is again<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Screen-shot-2013-05-07-at-10.55.35.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-20562\" alt=\"Screen shot 2013-05-07 at 10.55.35\" src=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Screen-shot-2013-05-07-at-10.55.35.png\" width=\"578\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Screen-shot-2013-05-07-at-10.55.35.png 722w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Screen-shot-2013-05-07-at-10.55.35-300x123.png 300w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Screen-shot-2013-05-07-at-10.55.35-200x82.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 578px) 100vw, 578px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p>At least \u00a3500 million of that one billion to be\u00a0recovered\u00a0will come from Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>And all Deputy Tadier has said is that at least part of this sum\u00a0might be\u00a0plausible\u00a0- in which case the French are bound to have lost as well.
