He's not an appealing man for many reasons, but I suspect he's right when he says this, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/7824cc28-83ed-11e2-b700-00144feabdc0.html#ixzz2MYYQh4rK\" target=\"_blank\">as reported in the FT this morning<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jacob Zuma, South Africa\u2019s president, has warned western companies they must change their old \u201ccolonial\u201d approach to Africa or risk losing out even more to the accelerating competition from China and other developing powers.<\/p>\n<p>Western businesses and governments have a \u201cpsychological problem\u201d and\u00a0are still prone to\u00a0lecturing Africa, Mr Zuma said in an interview with the Financial Times.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We saw a perfect example of this \"problem\" yesterday. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/commentisfree\/2013\/mar\/02\/aid-africa-growth-tony-blair?INTCMP=SRCH\" target=\"_blank\">Tony Blair reflected the\u00a0ethos \u00a0in an Observer\u00a0article<\/a>, quoting as his allies Bon and Geldof. He promotes\u00a0a failed culture of aid backed by\u00a0western\u00a0foreign direct\u00a0investment\u00a0that has denuded Africa through tax abuse via tax havens; issues Blair fails to mention and that, oddly, Bono doesn't like to adress.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder Zuma thinks as he does.<\/p>\n<p>There is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxjustice.net\/cms\/upload\/pdf\/Price_of_Offshore_Revisited_120722.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">much more on this here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;m not alone in having problems with President Zuma of South Africa.
