{"id":18369,"date":"2012-11-27T10:45:27","date_gmt":"2012-11-27T10:45:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=18369"},"modified":"2012-11-27T10:45:27","modified_gmt":"2012-11-27T10:45:27","slug":"last-nights-panorama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2012\/11\/27\/last-nights-panorama\/","title":{"rendered":"Last night&#8217;s Panorama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I've now <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episode\/b01p1zyg\/Panorama_Undercover_How_to_Dodge_Tax\/\" target=\"_blank\">watched last night's Panorama<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I found the editing a little annoying.<\/p>\n<p>I think the\u00a0investigation\u00a0diligent\u00a0and accurate.<\/p>\n<p>I have worked on the issue of tax haven secrecy for a long time, with Global Witness amongst others, and was pleased to see them in the programme.<\/p>\n<p>More though, I was pleased to see something I have been sure to be widespread so well exposed.<\/p>\n<p>It is time to ensure that all companies, trusts, foundations and other entities created by law anywhere in the world are properly\u00a0documented\u00a0so that their real owners , managers and beneficiaries can be identified for the benefit\u00a0of not just\u00a0regulatory\u00a0agencies but all who deal with them.<\/p>\n<p>Without being able to do so crime, onshore and offshjore, will flourish.\u00a0No wonder we have a \u00a370\u00a0billion\u00a0tax\u00a0evasion\u00a0problem\u00a0in this country.<\/p>\n<p>And it's time HMRC did its job in regulating\u00a0corporate\u00a0service providers properly. None have ever been prosecuted. Which is yet\u00a0another\u00a0indictment of the failure of HMRC top management.<\/p>\n<p>And it's time the\u00a0Department for Business, Innovation and Skills ran Companies House properly, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Documents\/500000Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">something I have long evidenced<\/a>, because as the programme suggested, this looks like the tip of the\u00a0iceberg\u00a0of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Please watch the programme.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve now watched last night&#8217;s Panorama.
