But I think the biggest issue may be the most important. It's this: that when the state walks away from an issue of concern to society at large it's invariably those\u00a0least\u00a0able to bear the cost who pay.<\/p>\n<p>That's happening here.<\/p>\n<p>It's why we need a genuinely\u00a0progressive\u00a0tax system linked to a genuinely\u00a0redistributive social welfare system. And that does not just mean redistributive in the present\u00a0moment,\u00a0vital as that it.
