Having noted that the average PWC partner earned \u00a3679,000 last year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/787ffeae-fcc5-11e1-ba37-00144feabdc0.html#ixzz26i32yT5u\" target=\"_blank\">the article added<\/a>\u00a0that PWC's spokesperson said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The recent political and media clamour over tax avoidance would not damage the performance of PwC\u2019s tax advisory arm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are seeing modest growth in our tax business. The sort of growth we are seeing is from people who want to make sure they are paying the right amount of tax\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Oh yes? Is that why PWC is in every major tax haven?<\/p>\n<p>And is that why it took me seconds to find an advert for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pwc.co.uk\/tax\/tax-on-transactions.jhtml\" target=\"_blank\">PWC's tax service, which says<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.30.38.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17329\" title=\"Screen shot 2012-09-17 at 08.30.38\" src=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.30.38.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.30.38.png 564w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.30.38-260x300.png 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 564px) 100vw, 564px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So the number one interest is PFI:\u00a0exploitation\u00a0of the state sector if ever it was done.<\/p>\n<p>And then we have an interesting in\u00a0maximising\u00a0the interest of the top\u00a0management\u00a0of the\u00a0organisation\u00a0- the 1%. No share option schemes, trust\u00a0arrangements\u00a0or tax avoidance there, I'm sure.<\/p>\n<p>That's followed by making sure taxes are paid at capital gains rates and not under income tax rules before we move down the list and find \"tax efficiency\" arise - the surest euphemism for avoidance in the book. And note the reference to integrating tax planning with accounting: now there's regulatory arbitrage at play if ever you saw it.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe a US advert from PWC is even more telling. It's <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pwc.com\/us\/en\/operations-management\/driving-operational-growth-through-supply-chains.jhtml\" target=\"_blank\">for supply chain management services<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.27.58.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17330\" title=\"Screen shot 2012-09-17 at 08.27.58\" src=\"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.27.58.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"566\" height=\"298\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.27.58.png 566w, https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Screen-shot-2012-09-17-at-08.27.58-300x157.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 566px) 100vw, 566px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Note the \"improve\u00a0tax effectiveness\" bit. That's otherwise called \"shift the profits to tax havens\".<\/p>\n<p>But PWC says \"The sort of growth we are seeing is from people who want to make sure they are paying the right amount of tax.\" Sorry, but I don't think so.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was amused by a comment from PWC in the FT this\u00a0morning.
