Apologists for tax abuse were out in force at the CBI this week, and on this blog in the form of Mark Lee, commenting here<\/a>.\u00a0As I replied to Mark<\/p>\n

\"The CBI says secrecy is unacceptable \u2014 and define its absence as being a TIEA. France recently explained that despite the enormous problems of raising TIEA requests \u2014 the impediments to asking are enormous \u2014 it has done so about 200 times and in 70% of cases tax havens don\u2019t reply. It\u2019s pruse sophistry \u2014 gross misinformation \u2014 or blatant dissembling to say that\u2019s transaprency \u2014 and you should know it.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the same on the GAAR. As ARC point out, this is a deliberate propsoal by a man well known for his involvement in the tax avoidance industry to produce a plan that would stop SHIPS 2 and nothing else. In other words \u2014 it is an excuse to say anything \u00a0but the likes of \u00a0SHIPS 2 is legimtimate tax planning.\"<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
