{"id":14886,"date":"2012-04-01T20:30:45","date_gmt":"2012-04-01T19:30:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=14886"},"modified":"2012-04-01T20:30:45","modified_gmt":"2012-04-01T19:30:45","slug":"ubs-are-accused-of-helping-tax-evaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2012\/04\/01\/ubs-are-accused-of-helping-tax-evaders\/","title":{"rendered":"UBS are accused of helping tax evaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swissinfo.ch\/eng\/business\/UBS_France_accused_of_abetting_tax_evasion.html?cid=32393176\" target=\"_blank\">As Swissinfo reports:<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A French journalist has accused UBS France of systematically helping major clients stash funds in Switzerland, depriving their government of tax revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Antoine Peillon\u2019s new book claims that the Swiss bank\u2019s employees secretly sought out customers to convince them to hide their money outside the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese employees were selling a turnkey solution for tax evasion, including legal advice, transporting money, and almost always the creation of a dummy company in some exotic tax paradise,\u201d writes the author in his book.<\/p>\n<p>UBS has categorically denied the claims. \u201cThe accusations contained in this book are false and unfounded,\u201d said the bank, which is considering whether to lodge a complaint, in a statement.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>UBS has denied helping tax evaders?\u00a0In\u00a0view\u00a0of their recent record in the US that seems like an odd claim to make. Not least given that the whole basis of the Swiss\u00a0banking\u00a0industry is the type of\u00a0structure\u00a0described. Why else the need for banking secrecy? Why else their love of tax haven companies?<\/p>\n<p>However, if UBS say they didn't do it, then let's see their defence.
