Germany\u2019s determination to impose a fiscal hair shirt on its eurozone partners did not work in the\u00a0<a title=\"Stability and Growth Pact\" href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/economy_finance\/economic_governance\/sgp\/index_en.htm\">\u201cstability and growth pact\u201d<\/a>. Is it going to work in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/european-council.europa.eu\/media\/639235\/st00tscg26_en12.pdf\">\u201ctreaty on stability, co-ordination and governance\u201d<\/a>\u00a0agreed last week? I doubt it.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Spain has already broken ranks on this new agreement - within days of it being signed.<\/p>\n<p>Amusingly it looks as though the Netherlands will too.<\/p>\n<p>It's dead in the water - as to be complied with as a Greek promise to deliver austerity.<\/p>\n<p>But Germany still demands the impossible. Time for them to dump Merkel, I think. Her illusory belief that all of Europe can behave like Germany is the biggest threat to\u00a0European\u00a0recovery there is.
