{"id":14122,"date":"2012-02-15T20:38:02","date_gmt":"2012-02-15T20:38:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=14122"},"modified":"2012-02-15T20:39:49","modified_gmt":"2012-02-15T20:39:49","slug":"europe-puts-switzerland-in-its-place-and-the-uk-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2012\/02\/15\/europe-puts-switzerland-in-its-place-and-the-uk-too\/","title":{"rendered":"Europe puts Switzerland in its place &#8211; and the UK too"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.europolitics.info\/external-policies\/london-berlin-and-athens-called-back-into-line-art326232-44.html\" target=\"_blank\">Europolitics has reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cEncouraged by recent international developments to improve transparency and administrative cooperation\u201d on taxation matters, the European Commission reiterated, on 15 February, that it is \u201cmore determined than ever to promote information exchange at the largest scale possible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It has accordingly held \u201cvery constructive discussions\u201d with Germany and the United Kingdom to make their Rubik agreements compatible with European rules on savings taxation. \u201cWe agreed on the need to remove from their scope\u201d all products covered by existing European rules on savings taxation and those that may be covered in the future. \u201cThis should enable us to put this problem behind us and concentrate on the intra-EU negotiations\u201d on the taxation of earnings on savings.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So that's the end of the Swiss deal then.<\/p>\n<p>And we're on track for real automatic information exchange it seems.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe not overnight.
