I think he's right.<\/p>\n<p>And the Euro crisis is fundamentally a banking crisis. It is\u00a0not\u00a0a\u00a0government\u00a0debt crisis, although of course there is such an issue. And in the short term it is not an issue of imbalances in trade, although of course that is fundamental to it. In the short term this is a\u00a0banking\u00a0crisis\u00a0because\u00a0it was banks that\u00a0over-lent, mostly completely recklessly. And that makes this a UK crisis. Why? Well <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/everyone-is-starting-to-realize-the-size-of-britains-debt-crisis-2012-1\" target=\"_blank\">this graph explains all<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/static7.businessinsider.com\/image\/4f008bb0ecad049b18000000\/image.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"752\" height=\"563\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We have financial debt within the City of London of more than 600% of GDP in the UK, dwarfing the issue for\u00a0everyone\u00a0else.<\/p>\n<p>That's why banks are going nowhere - because no one wants this debt.<\/p>\n<p>And that's why when or more likely if the Euro busts then London has the biggest crisis of all.<\/p>\n<p>I said 2012 wasn't going to be pretty.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hat tip: Howard Reed<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This graph has been used before, but it remains highly relevant.
