{"id":13065,"date":"2011-11-30T11:07:10","date_gmt":"2011-11-30T11:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/?p=13065"},"modified":"2011-11-30T15:08:47","modified_gmt":"2011-11-30T15:08:47","slug":"state-employees-have-to-now-pay-for-pensions-that-others-get-by-right","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.taxresearch.org.uk\/Blog\/2011\/11\/30\/state-employees-have-to-now-pay-for-pensions-that-others-get-by-right\/","title":{"rendered":"State employees have to now pay for pensions that others get by right"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today is a day of national strikes by public sector employees over their pension rights.<\/p>\n<p>The average\u00a0public\u00a0sector\u00a0pensioner gets a pension of \u00a35,600 (median).<\/p>\n<p>The average\u00a0pension\u00a0of a woman who worked for local authority is \u00a32,600 pa<\/p>\n<p>Basic old age pension is \u00a3102 a week or \u00a35,300.<\/p>\n<p>Pension poverty is defined as having less than \u00a3178 a week. \u00a39,256 pa.<\/p>\n<p>So in most cases those retiring on only a state pension from the private sector who have paid nothing get almost \u00a34,000 a year in pension credits and other benefits from the state for which they have not paid a penny in contributuion.<\/p>\n<p>But state employees have to pay all their lives for on average something little better.<\/p>\n<p>And you call that a gold plated deal?<\/p>\n<p>How?<\/p>\n<p>The reality is that public sector employees are paying in very many cases for what they could egt anyway without a\u00a0pension\u00a0scheme. Those complaining, please note.
