I have just taken part in a\u00a0surreal\u00a0discussion with Philip\u00a0Blond\u00a0on Radio 2.<\/p>\n
He argued for the mutualisation of public services.<\/p>\n
He never once said where the\u00a0capital\u00a0was coming from.<\/p>\n
When\u00a0Jeremy\u00a0Vine\u00a0pointed\u00a0out that if the state bailed out the contractor it had never been privatised he agreed that the state would have to bail out and indeed it followed these were never privatised services.<\/p>\n
But when I said that meant we'd simply be paying\u00a0more\u00a0to\u00a0transfer\u00a0profit payments for no risk to the\u00a0private\u00a0sector he said I was a Marxist (which I'm not and that was a pathetic ad hominem from him) and living in Soviet style Russia 1910 (wobbly history Philip, as wobbly as your\u00a0economics).<\/p>\n
The truth is simple: we cannot\u00a0afford\u00a0competition in basic services: as I\u00a0pointed\u00a0out that means we have to pay for ex ess wasted capacity instead of the best full capacity. The state is capable of delivering the latter - and it's a fantasy from him, and\u00a0the\u00a0result\u00a0only of politicians who have no courage or faith in what they're doing that that's not what we've got.<\/p>\n
Roll on the\u00a0Courageous State (out September).<\/p>\n
But in the meantime as I forecast - and as I'm right to forecast - we'll have failed\u00a0hospitals, schools,\u00a0social\u00a0services and more. All for the sake of dogma. That's callous betrayal of the people of this country.<\/p>\n
PS I\u00a0did\u00a0sort of find it amusing to be told how\u00a0wonderful\u00a0the market is by a minor theologian who has never run\u00a0anything\u00a0at all when I'm a chartered accountant who has had years of experience of it and knows just why it is nothing like his fantasy.
