There was an article in the New York Times yesterday on how to be happy.
These are not my regular reading. For some reason, I looked at this one, and the last of its twelve rather fatuous recommendations was this:
In a moment, I realised that Cher had sussed Morgan McSweeeny. Nothing matters in five years' time as far as he is concerned. That is his maximum time horizon. And since nothing much of value in politics can happen in less than five years, the entire emphasis of this Labour government is on things that do not matter. And that's why we're deep in political shit.
Thanks for reading this post.

But McSweeney is no celebrity, he’s within the crucible that affects other people’s lives so I do hope that this is not true.
Does he want to be out of his highly paid job in 5 years?
5 years in the life of a nation is too important to be wasted like this.
@PSR
You ask who McSweeney works for?
Start with his Wikipedia entry:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgan_McSweeney
Don’t skip his “Early Life and Education” section. Note the names involved in his early “Political Career” and then follow the “Labour Together” link in the opening paragraph of the LT section of the Wiki piece.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labour_Together
There comes a point in this descent into the rabbit-hole where “my conviction” meets “not proven”. About here, I would say. I give you the dots, I leave you to join them.
Particularly note the names in the “Formation” and “Relaunch” sections on that page. Besides Trevor Chinn; funder of Blair’s private office before he became PM; and Maurice Glasman; the only Labour Party member invited to Trump’s second inauguration; other major funders were Martin Taylor; who made his reputation with the Nevsky (hedge) Fund; and Gary Lubner; South African Jewish philanthropist.

I’m still recommending Maguire and Pogrund’s “Get In”. There I read that Dominic Cummings has had conversations with McSweeney.

ditto.
Zionist, friend of Mandelsohn – what more does one need to know. UK serfs are being taken for a ride by an unelected foreigner & fraud.
Fart-rage & Johnson both used “take back control” wrt Bexit. Perhaps now is the time to re-use it for citizens to get-back-control. Those unfortunate enough to have LINO MPs should bombard them with letters that should express in unvarnished terms that Starmer, Sweeney-todd, Reeves-imbecile and the rest have to go.
Robin’s is very good
I have to say, Mr McAlpine is very good indeed, and it has convinced me that the post is correct in its conclusion.
Note this paragraph:
‘Go and look at the numbers. They don’t lie. Static electoral vote since ‘the worst Labour defeat ever’ despite the former being against a resurgent Johnstone and the latter being against a dead-on-his-feet Sunak; fastest collapse in confidence in a government I’ve ever seen; fastest collapse in voter approval of a new political leader I’ve ever seen; fastest time to first relaunch in political history; not even a year before the first electoral shitshow. It’s actually quite impressive’.
The question then is: Who does McSweeney ACTUALLY work for?
That is not a stupid question in times like this.
It is an entirely appropriate question, and we do not know the answer.
In response to PSR & yourself, I have a sense that we grasp some elements of “WTF is happening”, but we don’t have a full picture.
It’s like a jigsaw, there is something in each piece but we don’t quite know how they fit together – to get to the big picture.
Or perhaps it’s just me? I remain very puzzled.
Thanks.
More that may be relevant tomorrow.
“Fart-rage & Johnson”
I prefer Lord Farquhar (as he looks just like the slimy villain dude with a posh accent in the Schreck movies) and BloJo (as he is nothing but a tax dodging Yank Blow Hard who will blow anything for self gain)!
Thank-you for lightening my day, Mike.
The Robert McAlpine article made me laugh, several times.
I did tell my LINO Junior Minister MP what I thought of Morgan McSweeney, a few weeks ago.
I wonder how long Starmer/Reeves/McTeam will last? Surely there must be enough LINO MPs with functioning brain cells to know that their leadership team is well past its sell-by date, and should be put in the compost recycling bin before it does even more harm.
Any new team will need every day of the next 4 years, to keep that manifesto promise of “Change”.
I loved this bit in Robin McAlpine’s piece:
“How anyone can anyone keep a straight face being briefed by McSweeney?
On the latter, the following happened over the course of about four weeks. ‘Don’t judge
us on toadying to Trump, judge us on escaping from tariffs’. ‘Don’t judge us now we
have been tariffed, it’s all about the negotiations’. ‘Don’t judge us on the negotiations,
Trump is dead set, but we’re in the priority lane for getting sweeteners’. ‘Don’t judge us
on speed of process now we’re in the slow lane, it’s about getting it right’. If I was
responsible for that I would grab my ceremonial kimono and katana and disembowel
myself in disgrace.”
That was very good.
