I apologise for the fact that I am still not back from the weekend.
Chichester has been worth visiting. I liked this juxtaposition. That is, of course, the cathedral in the background.
This was fun:
The Chichester Canal provided the best birding. This heron was hoping not to be spotted by his or her inevitable victims:
A great tit was pretending to be a reed bunting:
This reed warbler decided to let itself be photographed. They are usually a nightmare to see, let alone get a shot of. The whole canal was alive with their song. Cettis and sedge warblers were also around:
And at the Chichester Harbour marina, a cormorant and a black-headed gull ignored the ridiculous boats on display all around.

Hope you managed to fit in a visit to the Pallant Gallery, currently showing a Dora Carrington exhibition.
Saturday was pretty much spent there.
Also Maggie Hamblin, which I also enjoyed. And a great garden to sit and think in.
If one is in the area, is Winchester Cathedral worth visiting?
Yes. In a word. But I find Winchester very ‘twee’ and I wrote a book on an aspect of the city’s history decades ago.
More or less “Twee” than Stratford-on-Avon???? LOL!
Less
Glad to see you managed to fit in a visit to Chichester Richard, as we have a lodge (i.e. large static caravan) very nearby,in Pagham, which we visit every now and again. Lovely part of southern England and a nice town.
Great for birdwatching of course. I walk our dogs around the golf course attached to our caravan park and it’s possible to get out onto the RSPB nature reserve of Pagham harbour from there so I regularly see twitchers there.
And the west Sussex countryside! I’ve done countless walks nearby with or without a dog(s) for company. Swindon, Binsted, Cocking, Warburton. Fabulous. Some of the most enjoyable moments of my life have been spent on walking in that countryside.
BTW, were you staying in a house with that view of the cathedral? It’s a great view.
I like Pagham, but missed it this time. We stayed as close as implied to the cathedral, to see friends, visit the gallery and walk the canal. It was a very good break.
Glad you enjoyed it. ☺️
Well, don’t rush back – the pictures are lovely.
My memories are of a darker day, still extremely interesting around the canal and we went into a pub that I cannot remember the name of but it had real atmosphere and good beer.
