Adversity does sometimes produce amazing outcomes. Take this chart that plots Trump's 192 steps in twelve weeks that represent assaults on democracy and the rule of law:
That comes from Professor Christina Pagel, who has done amazing work on this. It is well worth going to read her analysis here.
We need to know what is happening. Prof Pagel is showing what that is.

Excellent read….and excellent work by Prof. Pagel. Thank you for highlighting it Richard.
Sterling work by Professor Pagels. Thanks for posting it. This chart is easily recognisable as a planned outcome by anyone familiar with conservative American libertarianism and wealthy allies of Lewis Powell and his infamous 1971 memo. So much of Thatcher’s economic legacy owes its origins and backers to such folk. People in political power in the UK fell asleep at the wheel, trusting in innate Progress, post the UK/US coups of 1963. My greatest rage is for the consequent ongoing unnecesary mass cruelty and extinction of our fragile shared natural world and its once respendently prolific living creatures.
Given the trajectory of the USM(ango) it can no longer be classified as an ally of the Uk or indeed the EU. At very best, the relationship needs to be arms length in every respect. This extends to the operation of US companies in the UK (and EU). These companies now need to be regarded as extensions of the Mango administation & treated accordingly. Given the oscillations in Mango policy (e.g. trade), when dealing with the USM, the starting position for any country needs to be that the USM is lying/double dealing/etc…….all of the time & that a position stated one day is likely to change drastically another, depending on the mood of the chimp-in-chief.
In short, the UK is dealing with a child that has its finger on a nuclear button.
Christina Pagel – now that is a heavy hitter – thanks sharing.
Yes, Prof Pagel’s work on this is excellent and this piece by Nesrine Malik is an excellent analysis of what is required of us in response, basically imagine/create a world without the USA. For this we need new leadership. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/apr/14/post-american-world-washington-chaotic-opportunity
Can’t remember how I found them, but I recommend The Meidas Network as an anti-Trump news network. They broadcast far more stuff than I have time to take in, but they’ve overtaken Fox as the main news stuff in US, which has got to be good!
